Hey! Happy Father's Day Papi!
Yeah, Elder Barnes is great for me! If all new missionaries are like him, I desire to train for the rest of my mission! This week, he forgot to put on a tie before going out to work, so he was tie-less for about 2 hours. He was pretty embarrassed when he found out. But yeah, he was teaching, IS teaching me a lot. For instance: This particular investigator, Darren, had never come to church. He'd always say yes, and then not show up. He's in his early 20's by the way. He said that he always said yes but never showed up. So, we called him twice Saturday night to confirm if he was going to church. Both times we received no answer. I would have given up right there, not wanting to bother him any further. But Elder Barnes picks up the home phone, which has a blocked number (for some odd reason), and calls him again, and got an answer. Haha Darren was surprised, and new that we were calling him for church. He said that he might come, and that he'll seriously think about it. So in the morning, Elder Barnes said, "Hey, let’s go see Darren before church." I thought it was a crazy idea, again, not wanting to bother or irritate anyone. But nonetheless, I could not push aside Elder Barnes' good idea, and so the other Elders dropped us off near Darren's house, and left us there. We knocked on Darren's house and he answered, and was already awake. We asked him if we could get a ride to church with him, and he said, "Yeah.... you guys are good." Haha, he caught us in our "guile" but he went to church, and said it wasn't NEARLY as bad as he was thinking it was going to be. So hopefully we can continue to get him to church! So there you have it. Elder Barnes, being the real missionary. I was reminded of a quote by Elder Tad R. Callister: "We sometimes have missionaries that are so worried about offending people that they never ever save them." I now have that quote written on my planner, where I can see it every day. Because I am one of those missionaries, and I don't want to be!
Plus, we FINALLY got back in contact with Brad, looks like he's having a rough time. Please keep him especially in your prayers.
Wow, Jace is graduating? Kyle is back? What the heck is going on? Sometimes I forget that times change things! Crazy how life moves on. Definitely tell the Milne’s I love 'em and miss 'em, though I'm sure Jace will give his usual apathetic response, haha.
Hey Maddie, that's really cool that you hiked the Narrows! I did it once too, it was a load of fun! We swam for a good portion of it. TONS of fun!
Glad to hear about Brigham! I miss that kid!
Ahhh, man, I don't know what it is lately, but some days I just feel so tired. Like I don't want to go out and work. Of course, I always do, but some days I'm just tired. Like today. Eh, it's alright, I know work is the cure!
Love you all!
ELDER BROOKS
