So I have to say that I'm glad the Vikings lost, though I wish they had lost sooner. (Sorry dad.) I was just frustrated cause we were supposed to teach the Young’s last night with the Stanley's, but because the game was on, Mark Young, the father, was watching the game since he is a hard core fan. So we didn't get to go over and teach them. Dumb. But whatever, I'm sure we'll reschedule with them, Sister Stanley said that they would invite them to their home to have a lesson, so maybe it's better that way. Interestingly enough though, Sister Stanley told us about how she had promptings to invite the Young’s to various activities a few times, and when we asked them if they knew anyone we could stop by to teach, she said the Young’s came to mind but that she didn't really say much. So it was interesting to note that after that, when Elder Peterson and I prayed to know where we should tract, that we tracted into the Young’s. I guess we were plan B. :)
So anyhoo, things are going okay. The mission is striving to teach 20 lessons a week, but Elder Peterson and only scraped up 10 this week... I get kind of frustrated, but I don't know what else I can do. We will probably resort to teaching a lot of active members this week, and ask for referrals. Melissa is doing well, we will probably commit her to stop smoking tonight. She has talked about getting baptized in March, but I'll be gone... :( Anita and Harold dogged us twice in one day, ugh... but I'm sure once we'll nail down a time, it'll all be good.
It's finally snowing again, which is good, cause it'll give us a little more traction on the bikes. I was getting REALLY tired of the freezing rain. That was the most RIDICULOUS weather I have ever been in my life!!! We were trying to figure out how to get anywhere that day, and we tried to bike out of the apartment, and that was out of the question. So we walked around in the rain, and it took us 10 minutes just to get out of the parking lot haha! I got stuck in a divet in the ground cause it was sloped on all sides, making my escape very difficult... ugh it was SO icy!!
Okay, so spiritual food for thought! So I was studying that day that it was raining like crazy, and I studied about work, and read a talk from Bishop Burton about it. In the talk, he mentioned something about sacrifice, and so I looked it up in the dictionary to see what the definition was, and it gave me the Latin word it was derived from. Sacrificium, which is derived from two roots, SACER=sacred + FACERE=to make. So sacrifice means to make sacred! I thought that was really cool, and put a new perspective on missionary work and what this time really is... sacred.
So after I studied this, I looked down at the floor, and beheld a mouse. Yes, a mouse. I was like, "ELDER PETERSON!" and the mouse ran away. So anyhow, I started looking for the mouse while Elder Peterson was laughing at me because he didn't believe me! So then he starts hearing a scratching noise, and then the mouse starts squeaking!! He looked at me, and I said "SEE?!?!" So anyways, we found out where the mouse was, and tore back the carpet, cause apparently the carpet peeled back right there. Then we found two little holes in the walls one at one end and one at the other and we see not one, but TWO mice. To make a long story short, we tried various methods of trapping this mouse, and the only one that worked was that we plugged up one of the holes, and when one of the mice wandered too far from the open hole, we plugged that one too, stopping any escape that way. Then we put some gloves on and grabbed him, and threw him in a Tupperware with cardboard on top and that's where he remains... for now. He is on a diet of peanut butter and water. So yeah, crazy huh? Man those mice are filthy though!!! I don't like them one bit... ugh.
So yeah, that's the news with me. Can't remember anything too noteworthy other than that!
Love you
ELDER BROOKS
(I was just finishing up his email when I got his email! So I hurried and sent a quick one to tell him it was coming. We sent a couple of emails back and forth after that.)
I'm laughing my head off about the mice! Put him outside! I don't want you to get any diseases from them - they carry icky stuff!!! My suggestion . . . GO BUY SOME TRAPS!
Well, we found a better alternative... Andy has a snapping turtle, you see. So mice works as good food apparently. So if we gotta kill the guy, I'll feed him to a snapping turtle. heh heh heh
