WOW! What a great Thanksgiving weekend we had! Friday we were decking the halls outside until well after dark. In all the hustle and bustle, nobody really thought to check the mailbox. Although, none of us really thought Cameron's mission call would come until next week due to the holiday. Dan went to get the mail at about 7:00 p.m. and there it was!!! CAMERON'S MISSION CALL!!
I phoned Cameron to come home (he was just around the corner) and within a few minutes we had a crowd of about 20 or so people, along with a few others listening in on cell phones. He is going to the Honduras Tegucigalpa Mission and will be entering the Provo MTC on March 3, 2010. Very exciting! At first, though, I have to admit, that I was a little overwhelmed and nervous! This is going to be a much different experience as a mom. But I have embraced the idea and am so excited for Cameron.
That night, I wrestled with the idea that Logan would have to wait until Monday and read the good news in an email. As I pictured it, all I could think of was that Logan was going to have a hard time with that and it would make him feel very far away from home and sad. In the morning, I had my mind set that I would call the mission president and ask if it would be okay for Cameron to call. Dan wanted a disclaimer that he had nothing to do with the phone call . . . Needless to say, President Howell was so great! He gave us Logan's cell phone number and said they would be heading out for the day in about 20 minutes!! Cameron was asleep, so I had to wake him up. He laid in bed and we gathered around as Cameron called his brother.
Logan answered the phone, tentatively. The Elders saw that it was from Arizona and told him to answer it. He then saw that it was our home phone number and was afraid to answer it. He didn't want to break any mission rules! When Cameron told him about his mission call, he screamed and screamed with excitement. It reminded me of when Logan and I went to the mail box together when his call was there. We sat in the car looking at the big envelope and both started screaming . . . . Aaaaahhh!
We listened to them talk for about 10 minutes and then we all said our good byes. It was such a GREAT call! I'm so glad that President Howell thought it was worthy of a phone call. It made the whole experience complete.
