Hello!
Well, not just 30 minutes ago, Elder Dailey, my Zone Leader that also lives in St. Cloud, drove the car over my foot!!! I was getting in the car and he drove forward, stopping on my foot haha! Actually, I'm quite fine, I just thought it was funny. I've also had my hand shut in the window by my other Zone Leader, Elder Birkel. I'm just getting abused!
OH!! I totally forgot to tell you! I lost Elder Wardle at transfers! He went down to Willmar, about an hour away. I got Elder Peterson! Guess who he was trained by? Yep, Elder Tueller! Haha wierd! Every companion that I've have has served with Elder Tueller except Elder Wardle! So Elder Peterson is from Orem Utah, and he danced all through high school. I like him so far! I'm exited for this transfer!
The work seems like it's going a little slow right now. It seems that all the potentials we get to teach ending up being under the south elders’ jurisdiction, if you will. We're really striving to find people to teach, and more than ever I am trying to talk with EVERYONE THAT I SEE. We are still going to teach Brandy, we just need to get on a more regular basis with her. I'll try and set up a time each week where we can come and teach her. She's reading scriptures though, and that is good!
So the weather here went from 80 to 45 in about two days. Totally skipped the 70's and the 60's and the 50's and went straight to the 40's... WHAT THE HECK. I was putting on gloves and two sweaters when I was riding my bike!
Oh! I just talked to this lady in the parking lot, and she lives RIGHT IN THE SAME NEIGHBORHOOD WE DO!!! She’s a snowbird, she said she lives right by the Flea Market on Signal Butte and Baseline! She wasn't too interested in talking though, and so she took off in her car. Frustrating how a white shirt, tie and a nametag turn people off...
Wow, David... I love that guy! I sure do miss him! It's weird thinking I've known him over half my life! I'm so glad he's doing well in California, I knew he'd be a great missionary! I'm going to write him today!
How's Uncle Max and the fam doing? Well, sounds like the SLC trip was awesome! There is actually a Five Guys up here, but I'm sure it can't be better than In 'N' Out! Well, I didn't hear the Come Thou Fount song, I had to go out and work in between sessions. It was raining up here too, and I still don't have a rain coat. I'm so jealous that you were able to be in the presence of the prophet! The closest I've ever gotten was Elder Ballard in the MTC, and that was pretty awesome!
So my experience of Conference was AMAZING, as it seems to be on my mission! We watched the Saturday session at the church building. So we saw all of the first session Saturday morning, and then we missed the first half of the second session because we were teaching a lesson, and so we made it back for the second half, and only got two talks in because a little kid decided he wanted to experiment with the fire alarm, and I discovered that it's really quite hard to concentrate on Elder Packer with loud sirens and flashing lights everywhere... ugh.
But the Sunday morning session we watched at the Bairrett’s house, and the afternoon session we watched at the church again. We didn't have any investigators... :( I do want everyone to know though, that Elder D. Todd Christofferson was wearing a tie that I own! Brown with tan and white stripes! Haha, I thought that was cool! So What did you think about Elder Holland’s talk? Aww man, I love that man, he is such a powerful speaker! He was all business! I loved how he called all the excuses and theories of the Book of Mormon pathetic! And how he explained all the hardships that the prophet’s posterity would go through just because he would not deny the truth. I could go on forever about that talk; Elder Holland is DEFINITELY one of my favorite to listen to!
Yeah, I took extensive notes on conference and learned a lot! I even used this cool idea that Elder Birkel gave me to write what they say that sticks out to me in black, and to write spiritual impressions in another color, and then when I reviewed my notes, I wrote those thoughts and impressions in a different color, so I can look back and see my thought process and whatnot. It worked out great!
The biggest thing I learned in conference was to not make excuses. Ann M. Dibb talked about using the safety equipment and many others talked about taking the "heart medication" or making our hearts soft, or when we receive knowledge, we are saved by it. I applied all this to my life and thought of the many missionaries who see some rules as lame or unnecessary. I've found myself thinking the same thing before too! But I've learned that the rules are there to teach me "moral discipline" (Elder Christofferson, I believe) and these two years are the only years I have to live by all the small rules. All the rules and the things we are asked to do may be cumbersome or silly, or whatever we may think, but it is the right way to do it, and we WILL be blessed by it! So those are some of my thoughts anyways!
Love you all,
ELDER LOGAN BROOKS
