Please Feed Us!

Hey hey hey!! Good to hear from ya, Cam! Yeah, it's true, I can't replace you, but Elder Grondel is pretty cool. Hmmm, a priesthood encampment, eh? Sweet man, but camping in AZ and camping up here is WAY different! It's pretty hardcore here, the forest is so thick in some places that you can't even walk through, and I'm sure it's riddled with ticks (ughh) and for sure huge mosquitoes... So anyways, yeah man, tell me about it, boredom will fry your brain way faster than sitting in school all day! Pick up a hobby, it's never too late to learn guitar! ;) But I can't wait just to see where you go on your mission! Dude it'll be so fun hearing your stories and whatnot. Well that's too bad about the girl watching Brig... Oh well, there'll be someone else. So anyhoo, yes, the high this week was about 56 degrees... I checked the calendar... yep, still July. I can't believe it was cold enough for Elder Grondel and I to throw a sweater on! Unbelievable. Though, I'd still rather be in the cold than the heat! I feel bad for those Mesa Elders! Aww man, I miss the monsoon weather though....

Yeah, Elder Grondel and I wanted to see if we could get the ward to sign up for more dinners... wasn't too effective... Made people laugh, but didn't make any more people sign up. (They put this picture with the dinner sign up sheet.) We need to get in more homes so we can get more referrals from members... But as far as the work is concerned, we have 3 NEW INVESTIGATORS!!! WHOO! (Two of which are the Jensens). But yeah we went over and taught the Jensens about the plan of salvation, they asked a couple of questions, and they said they missed us! Their biggest issue is really just getting them to come to church... they are out of town this weekend. Our other investigator is Jean King, who called the church yesterday and talked to bishop. She just got out of jail and wanted some food for a week cause her son is coming down and she doesn't want to take him to a drop-in. So the bishop agreed, but he said she would have to come to church and take a lesson from the missionaries. So we brought the food to her and taught her and her roommate Joe, a lesson. It went really well! We extended the baptismal invite and she accepted immediately! We are wondering if she just wants to take advantage of the welfare system, but if that's so, then she won't really keep the commitments that we give her and we can't baptize her without her keeping the commitments, so we'll see how that goes. We have another lesson with her tonight. We have a lot of potential investigators though, got 4-5 referrals out in Hibbing and a few in Virginia and in a couple other of towns!! So we have some work cut out for us, it's just hard getting to all these people with limited miles on our car. But it's so good to see the fruits of our labor! We worked pretty dang hard this week, even if we just knocked on doors a lot. I know it wasn't us though. The Lord was blessing us for our diligence I'm sure, and also very grateful for.

But last night we went up to this satellite group that meets up in Ely, and we were probably the most northern Mormons in the country! It was cool, it was just a small Sacrament meeting and there were only about ten people there. It was so beautiful, it was right on Moose Lake, with the sun setting right across the lake... pretty breathtaking I must say. Never would have thought Minnesota could have displayed such beauty, but I guess I was wrong! So that was a good experience, though we didn't get back to the apartment until 11! (Pres approved it.)

But yeah, that's about my week though, looking forward to better things that hopefully will happen this week!

Love,
ELDER BROOKS
