Hit the Ground Running

I laid awake in bed this morning from 5:30-6:30 am waiting for the phone to ring. By 6:30 am, I knew I wouldn't get my phone call from Logan at the airport. I was heartbroken and had a myriad of emotions. Dan couldn't stand me anymore and encouraged me to call the mission home - the secretary there is super nice. When I told her he didn't call home, she said she would make sure he got to call from there and even called back later to tell us exactly what time he would be calling . . .

Elder Brooks called at about 8:00 pm and we talked for 45 minutes. Silly boy . . . he couldn't figure out how get the call through on the pay phone! What a great conversation we had! He had to get up at 3:00 am this morning to get to the airport. His flight left at 7:00 am and arrived at 10:30 am. As soon as the Elders arrived, they hit the ground running and went straight to the University of Minnesota campus to make contacts. Logan was able to commit one young woman to an appointment with the missionaries. She said, "I'll even bring a friend!" He had a great day. He also met a girl that was getting her degree in Special Education and so, of course, he mentioned his little brother, Brigham. He bore testimony about eternal families and got a little choked up. He told us he missed Brigham and how much his testimony is strengthened by him. He talked to Brigham on the phone and got emotional. It was very tender. He is so grateful for the blessing that he is in his life. President and Sister Howell have a 13-year old daughter with Down syndrome with them. She sang a hymn to the Elders this evening that was very touching.

Tonight is "Christmas Eve" for them since they get to learn where they go tomorrow morning. We could hear such excitement in his voice. He gave us each a challenge and "preached" to us quite a bit. It was a good "preach." He is so excited about missionary work and reminded us that we are all missionaries. It is our responsibility to teach others about the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
